Magomedsalam Magomedov: It is important to increase international humanitarian cooperation within the arctic region

On behalf of the President of Russia Vladimir Putin the Deputy Chief of Staff of the Presidential Administration of Russia Magomedsalam Magomedov welcomed the participants of the forum “Russia. Indigenous ethnic minorities of the North, Siberia and the Far East” taking place in Salekhard.
“You will discuss a wide range of important issues and will outline directions for further work to improve life quality, to save original culture. These issues are among the significant priorities of the state. While fulfilling large-scale projects on development of the North, Siberia and the Far East, it is necessary to develop constructive dialogue with the local authorities, reputable public organizations, to consider opinions of people and to act in their best interests. It is important to increase international humanitarian cooperation within the arctic region”, as he said.
Having read the greeting letter of the President, Magomedsalam Magomedov marked active work of Yamal in solving problems of indigenous peoples, their protection on the legislative level. He thanked the governor of Yamal Dmitry Kobylkin for organizing of the forum and for hospitability and also marked good work of Grigory Ledkov as the president of the Russian Association of Indigenous Peoples of the North, Siberia and the Far East.
The Forum “Russia. Indigenous ethnic minorities of the North, Siberia and the Far East” is taking place in Salekhard from the 23rd to the 25th of March. More than 600 guests and invited representatives are participating in it. They are discussing issues of interaction between the regions within activity of such organizations as the Northern Forum, the Arctic Council, the University of the Arctic and the Russian Association of Indigenous Peoples of the North, Siberia and the Far East. Special attention will be paid to issues of northern reindeer husbandry.
The 8th congress of indigenous peoples of the North, Siberia and the Far East of the Russian Federation will take place on the 24th of March within the forum. The president of the Association Grigory Ledkov will present the report about the work during the latest 4 years. The new edition of the charter will be adopted, and the bodies of management for 2017-2021 will be elected.
