The exhibition of national crafts and trades of indigenous ethnic minorities of the North, Siberia and the Far East “The River of Time” was opened on the 23rd of March in the Museum and Exhibition complex of Ivan Shemanovskiy. It is dedicated to the congress of indigenous ethnic minorities.
Creative work of indigenous ethnic minorities of the North is being presented on the exhibition, and this is rich potential, which is passed carefully from generation to generation, as the curator of the exhibition Nikolay Kadyshev says. Young talents and professional craftspeople are demonstrating unrepeatable items of national crafts. Exhibits were brought from 22 Russian regions. These are: national souvenirs, unique dolls, household items, tools for hunting and fishing, clothes and footgear, utensils, pictures.
Works by craftspeople from Kamchatka are made of fish leather, among them there are women’s clothes, dolls, bags and belts with traditional ornaments continuing traditions of handmade skills. They use several materials. Thus, a panel picture is made of fish leather, shells, fur, beads, birch bark and paper. Traditional kinds of crafts — knitting, embroidery, lace making, patchwork and weaving – open secrets of life of Karelian people, peculiar features of everyday life, rural lifestyle of the past. As craftswomen from Karelia tell to a correspondent of the news agency “Sever-Press”, they not only keep available crafts, but also remember, what was forgotten, and start developing these crafts again.
The fashion show of traditional clothes took place. They were brought by a gatherer of indigenous ethnic items of Taymyr Anastasia Palchinova from Krasnoyarsk Krai. Last year this collection received the Grand-Prix on the international exhibition “Treasures of the North”. Also craftspeople from Chukotka and Magadan presented their art-works. These are unique items made of a mammoth tusk, a walrus tusk and antlers of deer, souvenirs of the Khatanga factory of national dolls, works of craftswomen made of fur, beads and leather.
During the exhibition the visitors and the guests of the festival can buy souvenirs and also to see interesting design solutions and ideas, how the craftspeople work.
