The forum “Russia. Indigenous ethnic minorities of the North, Siberia and the Far East” is being opened in Yamal

On the 23rd of March Salekhard is welcoming more than 500 participants and guests from Russian regions and foreign countries.

Numerous official greeting telegrams from different structures and territories are being received to the address of the organizers of the event.
The deputy Chief of Staff of the Presidential Administration of Russia Magomedsalam Magomedov, the plenipotentiary envoy of the President of the Russian Federation in Ural Federal Okrug Igor Kholmanskikh, the governor of Yamal-Nenets Autonomous Okrug Dmitriy Kobylkin, the governor of Tyumen Oblast Vladimir Yakushev will participate in the event on the first day. The deputy chairman of the Committee of the Federation Council on the Federal Structure, Regional Policies, Local Self-Governance and Affairs of the North Alexander Akimov, the Executive Secretary for the Arctic Council Indigenous Peoples Secretariat (IPS) Elle Merete Omma, the chairman of the board of the Association of World Reindeer Herders Mikhail Pogodayev arrived to Salekhard.
Among the participants there are: the Chairman of the Council of elders at the Russian Association of Indigenous Peoples of the North, Siberia and the Far East Sergey Kharyuchi, the deputy head of the Federal Agency for Affairs of nationalities of the Russian Federation Pavel Semyonov, the Chairman of the Committee of the State Duma on affairs of nationalities Ildar Gilmutdinov, the initiator of the forum, the president of the Russian Association of Indigenous Peoples of the North, Siberia and the Far East Grigory Ledkov, honored guests and delegates.
Journalists of international, federal and regional newspapers, magazines, television, radio and news agencies are covering the work of the forum.
As we should remind, the opening ceremony and the plenary session will be broadcasted in the Internet in the online mode today, on the 23rd of March, from 14:30 to 16:00, as the press-service of the governor of Yamal informs.
The work on thematic sessions is foreseen after the plenary session, on which the participants will discuss sustainable development of indigenous ethnic minorities of the North, Siberia and the Far East of Russia. The themes are extensive and varied: from traditional branches of economy and responsible nature management to access to biological resources and social policy as a factor of sustainable development of indigenous peoples. The discussion on issues of preservation of spiritual and cultural legacy of indigenous ethnic minorities and popularization of traditional crafts and trades will take place. Future of youth of indigenous ethnic minorities also will be discussed. The first day of the forum will be completed with the holiday concert with participation of national creative collectives “The strength of Russia is in unity of peoples”.
The 8th congress of the Association of Indigenous Peoples of the North, Siberia and the Far East will take place on the 24th of March. The president of the association will be elected.
The forum will be completed on the 25th of March in Salekhard within celebration of the Reindeer Herder’s Day.
