“The future of the Russian North” discussed own future

The participants of the session “Youth of indigenous ethnic minorities – the future of the Russian North” elaborated the project of recommendations with consideration of presented reports.
This information was given by the head specialist of the office of social policy, traditional lifestyle and economic activity at the department on affairs of indigenous ethnic minorities of Yamal Lidia Kelchina. As she notes, the youth council plans to present these recommendations to the authorities of the Association of Indigenous peoples of the North, Siberia and the Far East.
Lidia Kelchina adds that the framework law will be adopted by the results of the session. It will be based on regional laws on youth policy. “We shall hope that specifics of regions, where youth of indigenous peoples reside, will be taken into consideration”, as she said. The participants also discussed preservation of folklore of Evenk people, youth of Taymyr – a basic resource in sport, culture and education, development of youth movement of indigenous ethnic minorities in Primorsky Krai. The talk was about attracting of youth to traditional branches of economy, about mechanisms of development of educational processes for students from indigenous peoples.
As we should remind, the work of the forum is taking place on five thematic sections. The participants are discussing issues of preservation of traditional branches of economy, measures on ensuring of access to land, forest and water biological resources, regulation of activity of indigenous communities and responsible nature management.
The Forum “Russia. Indigenous ethnic minorities of the North, Siberia and the Far East” is taking place in Salekhard from the 23rd to the 25th of March. More than 600 guests and invited representatives, including delegates of the 8th congress of the Association of Indigenous peoples of the North, Siberia and the Far East are participating in it. Representatives from Russian regions, where indigenous ethnic minorities of the North, Siberia and the Far East of Russia reside, federal bodies of the power, the Arctic Council Indigenous Peoples Secretariat, the Association of World Reindeer Herders, the International Centre for Reindeer Husbandry arrived to Salekhard. Diplomats from Azerbaijan, the USA, Great Britain, France and Czechia and also businesspeople from Iceland and Germany became the guests on the Polar Circle.
