Igor Barinov: The law on defining the status of ethnic belonging will be adopted

In Salekhard within the congress of indigenous peoples the head of Federal Agency on Affairs of nationalities Igor Barinov promised faster adoption of the law on defining the status of ethnic belonging.
“We are working actively on creation of the registry of indigenous peoples of the North. Unfortunately, there is no single approach, and each region solves this issue independently. 247 thousand citizens live in extreme conditions. In fact, we shall simplify this mechanism and the right of indigenous peoples to receive measures of support being guaranteed by the state”, as he explained.
More than 600 people arrived to the eighth congress of indigenous peoples of the North, Siberia and the Far East of the Russian Federation. Among them there are 387 delegates representing 41 peoples from 28 regions: Yakutia, Karelia, Khakasiya, Tyva, Sakhalin and Magadan regions, Kamchatka, Krasnoyarsk and Khabarovsk regions, Khanty-Mansiysk Autonomous Okrug and Nenets Autonomous Okrug and others. The participants of the congress will adopt the new charter, will elect the president of the Association and administrative bodies for the next four years.
