All congresses of indigenous peoples of the North, Siberia and the Far East of the Russian Federation were always conducted brightly, as the president of the Association of Indigenous Peoples of the North, Siberia and the Far East Grigory Ledkov says after the completion of the congress in Salekhard.
“There was an element of surprise, heated disputes. According to many experts, our Association in Russia is one of the most active. Partially it is connected to the fact that we all have a lot of problematic issues that stimulates and unites. People don’t want to put up with the conditions, in which they live. They speak, and our task is to provide direct dialogue and to fulfill assignments. There is a feeling of fulfilled work; the great team did the best, not only the Association, these are my colleagues, sponsors, the government of Yamal-Nenets Autonomous Okrug, contribution of each region. The huge contribution of peoples themselves — they were coming here during a week, by snowmobiles, trains to the place of the congress, then by aircrafts, in the same way they will go back. Today we have completed the agenda. The important thing is that all of us heard each other”, Grigory Ledkov summed up the results of the work.
As we should remind, the 8th congress took place in Salekhard within the international forum “Russia. Indigenous ethnic minorities of the North, Siberia and the Far East”. 600 guests and invited representatives, including delegates of the 8th congress of the Russian Association of Indigenous Peoples of the North, Siberia and the Far East participated in it.
Representatives from Russian regions, where indigenous ethnic minorities of the North, Siberia and the Far East of Russia reside, federal bodies of the power, the Arctic Council Indigenous Peoples Secretariat, the Association of World Reindeer Herders, the International Centre for Reindeer Husbandry arrived to Salekhard. Diplomats from Azerbaijan, the USA, Great Britain, France and Czechia and also businesspeople from Iceland and Germany became the guests on the Polar Circle.
On the 25th of March the forum will be completed with the celebration of the Reindeer Herder’s Day.
