On the 15th of June a group of scientists will go to the excavations to the settlement Salekhard-4 related to the Bronze Age. This information was given on the 13th of June by a junior researcher of the scientific center for study of the Arctic Daniil Tupakhin in Salekhard on the press-conference in the news agency “Sever-Press”.
As we should note, this archeological monument is situated in 2-3 kilometers away from the town Salekhard, and it is easy to reach it. Olga Kudrich (now Tupakhina) and Andrey Gusev found it in 2009. They laid archeological test pits that showed presence of a cultural layer.
Many monuments of the Bronze Age were found in Yamal, but excavations were conducted only on two of them in different time by different researchers, therefore there not much information about this epoch. Thus, it was decided to excavate the monument Salekhard-4, where the scientists plan to receive data on economic activity of population of this settlement in the ancient time, to study some cultural interaction, as Daniil Tupakhin explains.
During a month 10 people from Salekhard, Tomsk, Ufa, Novosibirsk under leadership of Olga Tupakhina will conduct the excavations on this archeological monument. A stone tool was found in 2009 in the settlement – a big scraper on pelts and different ceramics, because people lived there in different historical epochs. According to the preliminary results, it was confirmed that these were the epoch of the Middle Ages and the Bronze Age. It is planned to receive more detailed information about the Bronze Age in the course of the excavations.
