The Northern Sea Route has been prepared, as the governor of Yamal Dmitry Kobylkin says in Sabetta on the sitting of the State Commission on Arctic Development.
The plant “Yamal LNG” and the future “Arctic LNG” on the Gydan peninsula and also transportation of oil from fields adjoining to the Gulf of Ob will allow increasing cargo traffic on the Northern Sea Route up to more than 70 million tonnes per year, as the governor declares. He notes that this is not the limit, underlining that it is important to synchronize work on all parts at development of transport infrastructure.
Dmitry Kobylkin addressed to the Chairman of the state commission Dmitry Rogozin with a request to support infrastructural initiatives of Yamal within discussion on the sitting of the government of the Russian Federation and to consider the opportunity to include elaboration of the concept on development of the multifunctional port of Sabetta into the state program on development of the Arctic.
The seaport of Sabetta was built within public-private partnership, as the press-service of the governor of Yamal informs. Primarily cargo berths were built to receive building materials and technological modules of the plant. Cargoes are delivered into the port the whole year round. Icebreaking support is used in winter. The seaport of Sabetta will become one of the most important supporting points of the Northern Sea Route — the shortest route connecting Europe and Asia.
Many aspects of state policy in the Arctic intersect in Yamal today. All are here in the sphere of industrial growth, social and economic development, environmental and information security as Dmitry Kobylkin underlines.
