Dmitry Rogozin: Bringing of “Yamal LNG” to full capacity will increase cargo traffic on the Northern Sea Route

Bringing of the project “Yamal LNG” to full capacity will provide an opportunity significantly to increase cargo traffic on the Northern Sea Route. Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Rogozin said about it within the visiting session of the State Commission on Arctic Development in Sabetta.
As he notes, last year the amount of cargo transportations on the Northern Sea Route exceeded the record 7 million and 300 thousand tonnes. According to his words, it is directly connected to fulfillment of the project “Yamal LNG”, and further its contribution in increase in amounts of cargo transportations on the Northern Sea Route will grow many times. Dmitry Rogozin reminds that within the project it is planned annually manufacture 16 million and 500 thousand tonnes of liquefied natural gas and up to 1 million and 100 thousand tonnes of stabilized gas condensate with predominant delivery to the markets of the Asia-Pacific Region.
More than 505 milliard cubic meters of gas are extracted in Yamal-Nenets Autonomous Okrug, it makes 80 percent of total Russian gas. The extractable amount of oil and gas condensate makes 52 million and 500 thousand tonnes — 9.6 percent of the total amount of Russian oil. Proven extractable reserves make 13 percent of all oil reserves in Russia, as tass.ru reports. Gazprom and NOVATEK are the main manufacturers of energy resources in the region. The northernmost railroad line was built from Obskaya to Bovanenkovo, two new airports operate, the new seaport of Sabetta is being built, and objects of power generation are being created. The large railroad project “The Northern Latitudinal Railway” is being fulfilled in the region. It will allow doubling the total carrying potential of transport infrastructure of the region and also involving extractive fields, which earlier had no prospects for development because of transport non-accessibility, into economic turnover.
Deputy Prime Minister calls to coordinate fulfillment of investment projects in the Arctic in order not to waste budget resources. As he notes, in conditions of limited budgetary resources it is extremely important to coordinate investment projects. According to his words, active work on a new version of the state program “On socioeconomic development of the Arctic zone” is taking place now. In the program the state provides mechanisms necessary to create infrastructure for development of supporting areas for fulfillment of investment projects. Dmitry Rogozin underlines that their development should follow not only economic but also social interests.
