In the current economic conditions work on creation of the new icebreaking fleet should be conducted in cooperation of the state and business.
Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Rogozin said about it on the sitting of the State Commission on Arctic Development in the port of Sabetta. He suggested considering possible variants of cooperation.
It will be difficult to solve the issue of development of the nuclear-powered icebreaking fleet in the short-term prospect without participation of business in conditions of considerable budgetary restrictions, as he notes. Deputy Prime Minister proposes to discuss possible forms and conditions of cooperation between the state and business to solve such an ambitious task.
According to the words of Dmitry Rogozin, increase in cargo traffic on the Northern Sea Route raises questions about the necessity to organize year-round navigation on its water areas. It will require for an integrated approach to receive hydrographic, hydro-meteorological and cartographic data, to strengthen measures on prevention from oil spills. As he underlines, icebreaking support will play the important role in it. New nuclear-powered icebreakers will be necessary in addition to three ships LK-60, which are being built now.
On the 16th of June Deputy Prime Minister plans to visit St. Petersburg, where he will see how one of the most important stages in building of a nuclear-powered icebreaker is being completed, as TASS reports.
Dmitry Rogozin notes that the prospects of development of such projects as “Yamal LNG-2” are inseparably connected with construction of icebreakers, including such ones as the super-icebreaker “Leader”. Its specifications will allow providing year-round navigation on the Northern Sea Route in all directions for modern gas carriers and other large ships.
