The international research station for study of climate is being created in Yamal within the international scientific program “The Pan-Eurasian experiment” founded by Russia, China and Europe.
According to the information given in the regional department on science and innovations, the quadripartite agreement on cooperation for introduction of the project was signed by Tyumen scientific center of the Siberian branch of the RAS, Tyumen State University, the government of Tyumen Oblast and the government of Yamal-Nenets Autonomous Okrug. Introduction of the program will take place in cooperation with the company “Yamal LNG”.
The Pan-Eurasian experiment is a project on study of fundamental problems of the environment, including its interaction with economy and technological development. Its aim is in creation of the network of ground-based stations on our planet for regular monitoring of atmosphere, soil, vegetation, water bodies and landscapes. Such stations already exist in Scandinavia, South Africa and China. In total, the project involves more than 100 scientific organizations, as TASS reports.
The warm summer weather unusual for the Far North was observed in 2016 on the Yamal Peninsula, the temperature reached 35C degrees above zero. The abnormal heat led to the fact that the depth of seasonal thawing in the permafrost zone was significantly bigger than in the past, this led to changing of the tundra landscape. Earlier, the director of the department Aleksey Titovskiy reported that in 2017 the regional authorities would allocate more than 63 million rubles for scientific researches and interdisciplinary expeditions.
