In Yamal Starushka-Kamen and Sopka-Bashmak became objects of cultural heritage

It was decided to include 11 sacred places of Yamal-Nenets Autonomous Okrug to the Russian unified state register of objects of cultural heritage to provide protection of sacral territories.

Four sacred places received the status of objects of cultural heritage of regional significance on the basis of conclusions of the state historical and cultural expert examination: “Khada Pe” (Starushka-Kamen, The Stone Old Lady) in Priuralskiy district, “Khorlor” (The He-Reindeer’s Lake) in Shuryshkarskiy district, “Ser-ngo Iriko” (The Old Man of the Ice Island, the Master of the White Island) and “Yamal Khekhe” (The Goddess of the Edge of the Earth) in Yamalskiy district.
Seven sacred places received the status of objects of cultural heritage of local (municipal) significance: “Vul kev iki khor” (The Big Stone Old Man’s stretch of water) in Shuryshkarskiy district, “Pedarata-Savrey pe” (the pointed stone of the wooded river), “Sada pe” (the swamp stone), “Syadey khara” (the guards’ river bend), “Kharnak seda” (Sopka-Bashmak, the Shoe Hill), the sacred place “Khekhe pe” (The Sacred Mountain) and the sacred place “Yalya pya seda” (The hill of the sunny tree) in Priuralskiy district.
Sacred places make the special category of historical and cultural heritage of Yamal and are ones of the best examples of harmonious interaction between the man and the surrounding natural landscape. For safety they are put on the state account as objects of cultural heritage. From this moment these ethnic objects are under protection of the state, and it is forbidden to conduct any economic activity within the registered boundaries of location of the objects, as the press-service of the governor of Yamal informs. In Yamal the status of objects of cultural heritage included into the unified state register was given to 21 sacred (cult) places, it makes fifty percent of the total number of monuments of federal, regional and local (municipal) significance.
