On the 15th of September a deputy governor of Yamal, the director of the department of international and external economic relations Alexander Mazharov conducted the meeting with the Ambassador of the Republic of Estonia to the Russian Federation Arti Hilpus.
They discussed prospects of fulfillment of joint projects on preservation of culture, traditions and language of Finno-Ugric peoples.
For Arti Hilpus this is the first visit to the Far North of Russia. Earlier he worked the ambassador to Norway and Iceland. Therefore, he is familiar with the theme of development and protection of culture, language and traditions of ethnic minorities.
As Arti Hilpus says, for him it is important to visit those Russian regions, where kindred Finno-Ugric and Uralic peoples reside. In this direction Estonia, Finland and Hungary have big experience and are ready to share it with friends from Yamal, as he underlines.
Arti Hilpus visited a boarding school in the settlement Aksarka, where children of Khanty people study. The children presented original culture, songs, clothes, rituals and traditions.
Besides, Yamal and Estonia will continue cultural relations. Thus, the traditional Day of kindred peoples will take place in Estonia in October. Scientists, ethnographers, teachers of universities from different countries will arrive to the event. Also representatives of Yamal-Nenets Autonomous Okrug will participate in it.
The ambassador notes that Estonia sees Yamal as one of the close associates in the arctic region.
