Scientists from Yamal together with pupils of the children’s and youth centre of Salekhard conducted researches on the platform of the “The Circumpolar Active Layer Monitoring Network-CALM” near the village of Kharp. The scientists and the pupils used measuring with a permafrost probe and modern electric exploration methods – a ground penetrating radar and electrical tomography. This information was given in the scientific center for study of the Arctic.
These methods allow receiving additional information on cryolithozone — the upper layer of the earth’s crust for further analysis of its evolution, as the director of the scientific center for study of the Arctic, candidate of geological-mineralogical sciences Anton Sinitsky says. The scientists attracted the pupils to the project in order to increase interest of talented adolescents to research activities. On the platform of CALM they worked as real field researchers. Also the pupils of the children’s and youth center will be able to participate in data processing, to use the results of the research for writing their own projects and participation in school scientific conferences.
The research location was founded in 2016 by the scientific center for study of the Arctic in collaboration with Lomonosov Moscow state University.
