In Medvezhya Gora experts learnt about education in nomadic schools in Yamal

Experts from Moscow, Saint-Petersburg, Arkhangelsk, Finland, the Republics of Sakha (Yakutia) and Komi completed their work in Yamal-Nenets Autonomous Okrug on the 19th of September. The expedition was organized within the international project “Children of the Arctic. Preschool education”.
In Purovskiy district the scientists from Moscow, Saint-Petersburg, Finland and Yakutia got acquainted with regional practices of ethno-cultural education in Kharampur tundra. The experts visited the nomadic camp Medvezhya Gora (The Bear Mountain), saw organizing of educational process in the nomadic seasonal school. Each autumn children of indigenous northerners study in a choum (nomadic dwelling similar to a tepee) without interruption of usual lifestyle. Being near their families the schoolchildren are accustomed better to their traditional culture and preserve there native language, as the TV and radio company “Loutch” (Beam) informs. Also the guests visited nomadic preschool groups of a kindergarten in Kharampur. Pedagogues and pupils of preschools groups presented fragments of lessons on the surrounding world, showed the holiday of forest Nenets people “The autumn fishing season” and acquainted the guests with national games.
The experts also visited the educational ethno-park “Arktorium” in Noviy Urengoy and a boarding school in the village of Kharampur. By the results of the expedition the scientists will elaborate universal recommendations on the project “Getting ready for school” for the whole Arctic zone.
