The Arctic dialogue after Skolkovo will be continued in Salekhard

Basic directions of development of regional science in Yamal-Nenets Autonomous Okrug were discussed by the participants of “The Arctic Dialogue” of the Energy club of the business school SKOLKOVO.
On the meeting the director of the scientific center for study of the Arctic, candidate of geological-mineralogical sciences Anton Sinitskiy told about specifics of development of regional science and priority directions of researches in Yamal-Nenets Autonomous Okrug, what fundamental and applied tasks stand before scientists in the arctic region. The organizers of the Energy club accepted the invitation to participate in the international festival of the Siberian Environmental Change Network SecNet, which will take place in the end of October in Salekhard, as the press-service of the governor of Yamal informs.
According to the words of Anton Sinitskiy, the basic theme of the meeting was presented as “The Arctic – the territory of complex study and development”. Leading scientists, public figures, politicians, heads of consulting companies, authoritative experts discussed aspects of ecological providing of security in high latitudes, priorities of industrial and economic development, investment attractiveness of regions. The director of the center for study of the Arctic presented basic trends of development of regional science in the Arctic, which include ecological monitoring, study of issues of reindeer husbandry, protection of ethno-cultural heritage and others. As he reminds, expeditions to districts of Yamal were conducted in 2017 at support of the department on science and innovations of Yamal-Nenets Autonomous Okrug and the Russian center for exploration of the Arctic. The specialists conducted geo-botanic assessment of reindeer pastures, socioeconomic researches of life activity of indigenous ethnic minorities of the North, geo-cryology monitoring, study of state of terrestrial ecological systems and consequences of climate changes. The participants of the dialogue took active part in discussion of the outlined problems and challenges.
According to the information given by Anton Sinitskiy, the second yearly international seminar of the Siberian Environmental Change Network SecNet “Siberia in a global context. Winter weather and climate extremes: how can researchers, authorities and local people work together to record, predict and adapt?” will take place in Salekhard from the 30th of October to the 5th of November.
The seminar is being organized by Tomsk state university together with the government of Yamal-Nenets Autonomous Okrug. Within the seminar it is planned to discuss results of interdisciplinary scientific researches and also to attract researchers, bodies of the power and representatives of indigenous peoples for exchange of knowledge about extreme weather phenomena, their influence on nature and people and to elaborate adaptation strategies.
