Protection of nature for Yamal-Nenets Autonomous Okrug is a working principle and a formed system.
Environmentally friendly character of productions, qualification of specially created services and monitoring for the largest Russian and foreign fuel and energy companies means reputation and quality mark on the global market. The governor of Yamal-Nenets Autonomous Okrug Dmitry Kobylkin told about it in the interview with Expert Online. The head of the region notes that fuel and energy companies actively participated in cleaning of the northernmost point of Yamal – Beliy Island from industrial wastes. The year-round research station for scientists from the whole world works there now. The environmental group visited Vilkitsky Island in the Kara Sea.
Scientists from Germany, Israel, France and Mexico worked here during this field season. Partners from the UK, Canada and the Netherlands were involved into separate studies. Researchers from Yamal also participate in field work abroad, particularly in Norway. The international research station for climate monitoring is being created in Yamal within the international scientific program PEEX established by Russia, China and Europe. Together with the World Wildlife Fund the specialists of the region conduct observations over the little-studied population of polar bears in the Kara Sea, as the head of the region tells about joint research projects.
Dmitry Kobylkin gave another example of collaboration. This year Sobsky fish-farming plant, which is the only one in the Arctic for replenishment of water biological resources, was input to operation owing to compensation payment of NOVATEK. The project capacity of the plant makes 140 million fingerlings of valuable species of fish per year. More than 23 million and 500 thousand whitefish fingerlings have been already released into the Ob River.
In addition, the fuel and energy companies take significant social load, investing into construction of kindergartens, schools and centers for gifted children, opening specialized educational institutions, supporting public organizations of indigenous peoples.
