In 10 years cargo turnover of the Northern Sea Route will ten times grow – up to 70 million tonnes per year and more. Geographical location makes Yamal a new logistic hub for development of the Northern Sea Route. The transport project “Energy of the Arctic” is its basis. It includes building of the railroad line “The Northern Latitudinal Railway”, the sector “Bovanenkovo – Sabetta” and development of the international seaport of Sabetta.
The created transport corridor will give the opportunity to transport cargoes from new, while hard-to-reach extractive fields, and will open the Northern Sea Route for products of Russian enterprises from many regions of the country. Both exporters and importers will win. Therefore, agreements between the heads of Russia and China on development of the project “One Belt – One Road” together with the Northern Sea Route will give completely new horizons for many countries of the world, as the governor of Yamal-Nenets Autonomous Okrug Dmitry Kobylkin says in the interview with Expert Online.
As the head of the region notes, today already many international partners intend also to participate in development of the Gydan Peninsula, where building of the plant “Arctic LNG 2” will start on sea platforms on waters of the Kara Sea.
