Employees of the sector of ethnography at the institute of language, literature and history of Komi people – candidate of philological sciences Oleg Ulyashev and candidate of historical sciences Kirill Istomin went to the expedition to Yamal.
The trip was organized within the project “Local groups of Komi people of Nadymskiy and Purovskiy districts in Yamal-Nenets Autonomous Okrug: language, culture, history of formation”.
The scientists of the institute paid attention to earlier non-studied groups of Komi people residing in Nadymskiy and Purovskiy districts. They studied their culture, specifics of language, some folkloristic texts related also with local reindeer husbandry and also elements of rituals that preserved reminiscences about resettlement to this area.
This year the ethnographers visited Nadymskiy district, where Komi people appeared in the end of 19th century and founded the settlements Nyda and Nori. The reindeer state farm “Nydinskiy”, one of the largest in Yamal, is situated in one of them. Komi make almost a half of the number of reindeer herders on this state farm. The scientists visited the northernmost pastures of three reindeer-herding brigades of the enterprise. Two of them consist of Komi people, one – of Nenets people, as the news agency “BNK” informs. They managed to collect information on conducting of reindeer husbandry, material and partially on spiritual culture of the reindeer herders. Also they evaluated the level of preservation of Komi language.
Bodies of the power of Yamal-Nenets Autonomous Okrug and the Republic of Komi will be able to use the results of the researches for preservation and development of language and culture of Komi people. The new knowledge about ethnic communities, which were not described earlier, will allow adjusting the ethnic map of Russia.
