The 6th congress of Finno-Ugric peoples of the Russian Federation took place in Syktyvkar. It gathered more than 200 delegates and guests from 43 regions of the country, representatives of federal and regional authorities.
As the acting minister for national policy of the Republic of Komi Galina Gabusheva notes, the 6th congress of Finno-Ugric peoples showed unity of opinions and mutual understanding of the delegates in solving of problems general for kindred peoples. The work of the forum took place in the format of constructive dialogue.
The participants of the congress discussed priority directions of development of the Finno-Ugric community: development of languages, support of ethno-cultural projects and ethno-tourism, development of the internet, television and radio projects in national languages. The talk was about protection of ecology and health, spiritual and patriotic education of youth, cooperation in the sphere of social partnership and business. By the results it was decided to continue the work on all priority directions with inclusion of new suggestions, as the ministry for national policy of the Republic of Komi informs.
A representative of the Yamal national and cultural autonomy of Khanty people “Pulngavat” Yelena Rybina was included to the council of the Association of Finno-Ugric peoples of the Russian Federation, as the press-service of the governor of Yamal informs. Representatives of the department on affairs of indigenous ethnic minorities of the North, Yamal-Nenets Autonomous Okrug participated in the meeting with the administration of Syktyvkar State University named after Pitirim Sorokin. They discussed the issue of education of people from Yamal on targeted enrollment in one of main universities of the Republic of Komi.
The final document of the forum includes such points as assistance to elaboration and adoption of the targeted program on training of national personnel for education, culture and mass media, assistance in solving of the problem on inclusion of textbooks of native languages and literature to the federal list. Also it includes suggestions on rendering of support in development of ethnic sport, assistance to protection of natural systems, increase in airtime in Finno-Ugric languages in broadcasts of regional television and radio companies.
The delegates of the congress note that the Finno-Ugric movement makes considerable contribution to strengthening and supporting of cross-national harmony, takes responsibility for preservation of unity in multinational Russia, its language and cultural heritage.
