Light and ultra-light aviation is demanded in Yamal. This information was given on the 4th of October by a pilot-instructor of the regional Federation “Wings of the Arctic” Vladimir Mitsik to journalists.
As he says, such universal aircrafts are necessary in the Autonomous Okrug, they can fly in any location at any weather.
The regional Federation of light and ultra-light aviation “Wings of the Arctic” was created in June of 2012. The first aircraft L-42M was purchased then. It was called “Sterkh” (Siberian white crane). Now “Wings of the Arctic” has three aircrafts L-42M and one training aircraft A-22 “Aeroprakt”. Also in the hangar there is a hang glider, on which the President of Russia Vladimir Putin flew in 2012, while participating in the expedition on rescuing of white cranes in Yamal. He flew on the hang glider as the leader of the flock of cranes. The Siberian cranes grown up in Oka Nature Reserve followed him.
After receiving of the license in 2013 the organization fulfills a row of aviation activities and participates actively in life of the region. In particular, it fulfills air patrolling for protection of biological resources of the region, helps ecological, ethnographic and scientific expeditions on the whole territory of the region, including in the northernmost areas, such as Beliy Island, Vilkitsky Island and the Gydan Peninsula.
According to the words of Vladimir Mitsik, the aircraft is unique by its characteristics. Thus, it is enough fuel for 10 hours, what means 1600-1800 kilometers of flying. Thus, it can fly to Beliy Island and back without additional refueling.
In summer flights were fulfilled basically from water area of the ground situated in the south-eastern part of the town Salekhard. In winter flights are fulfilled from the new ground “Obdorsk”. Since this September flights from this ground became all-seasonal: it was equipped with the soft-surface runway with the lighting system. It allows exploiting the runway in dark time of a day.
Professionals work in the Federation. Vladimir Mitsik gave 37 years of his life to aviation. He was the commander of the crew of the aircraft Yak-40. Even after retiring he was unable to say goodbye to the sky and now continues to do his favorite work.
Further “Wings of the Arctic” intend to develop aviation and technical base, to increase the fleet of aircrafts and also to continue education of specialists. Besides, the federation plans to purchase a helicopter.
