Directions of agro-industrial complex not typical for the Arctic are developed in Yamal

In Russia employees of agriculture and processing industry marked their professional holiday this Sunday, on the 8th of October. Agriculture in Yamal-Nenets Autonomous Okrug develops dynamically, fulfilling an important task – to provide food safety of the region.
About 100 different organizations – enterprises, communities, individual entrepreneurs, farms and also more than 3000 private enterprises of reindeer herders are busy with agricultural activity in Yamal. The number of employees of agriculture and fishery makes about 4500 people. 19 thousand people conduct nomadic or half-nomadic lifestyle, being busy predominantly with reindeer husbandry and fishery.
Reindeer husbandry in Yamal develops today within “the roadmap” on rational use of reindeer pastures and providing of secure epizootic situation. This plan foresees intensive development of the branch; it is based on high quality and safety of products, enlargement of its assortment and sales markets. It is planned to stock up 2800 tonnes of reindeer meat.
One more original branch of economy in Yamal – fishery – counts more than 2500 employees. 34 enterprises, including 10 communities, catch fish. 4 organizations process fish. Every year the enterprises show increase in amounts of fish catch: 8615 tonnes in 2015, almost 10 thousand tonnes in 2016. Population of the region is supplied with fish products of own production more than on 80 percent, as the regional department of agro-industrial complex, trade and foodstuff informs.
Also directions of agriculture not typical for the Arctic are developed in the region – dairy, cattle farming and plant growing. Milk products of local enterprises are delivered to social establishments of the region and for sale for population. At that, the assortment is wide — from pasteurized milk to butter and yogurt. Plant growing in Yamal is presented mainly with potato growing. Vegetables in the region are grown both on open and protected ground.
The governor of Yamal-Nenets Autonomous Okrug Dmitry Kobylkin, the director of the department of agro-industrial complex, trade and foodstuff of Yamal-Nenets Autonomous Okrug Viktor Yugai and other official persons congratulated employees of agricultural industry with their professional holiday.
