Polar Silk Road. China wants to cooperate with arctic countries in all spheres

Together with other states China intends to create sea trade routes in the arctic region within the initiative “Polar Silk Road”. This information is given in a White Paper “China’s Arctic Policy” published by the State Council of the People’s Republic of China. 

It is possible to take constructive steps on coordination of development strategies with arctic states for assistance to joint efforts on creation of the sea economic corridor between China and Europe via the Arctic Ocean, as it is said in the statement of the country’s government.
As it is noted in the document, Chinese enterprises are encouraged for participation in development of infrastructure for these routes and fulfillment of test commercial voyages in conformity with legislation and corresponding regulation.
Also as it is said in a White Paper, the China’s government intends to pay special attention to providing of safety of maritime navigation in the Arctic, as TASS reports. The country participated actively in study of such routes and constantly intensified hydrographic work in the region to improve quality of navigation and to strengthen security and logistic potential in the Arctic.
China intends to develop extraction of oil, gas, mineral resources and non-fossil fuels and also to develop fishing and tourism in cooperation with the Arctic states, respecting traditions and culture of indigenous inhabitants of the region and taking measures to protect the environment, as it is underlined in the government’s statement. China also intends to develop scientific researches in the Arctic.
