Multispiral computed tomography of coronary arteries has been done for 20 patients in the vascular centre of the town hospital in Noyabrsk since the beginning of the year, and 5 of them were sent for further medical examination and treatment.
The new method to study blood vessels is fulfilled on a modern tomography scanner, which appeared in the hospital in November last year. For the present day the tomography scanner allows receiving information not only about state of coronary arteries, but also assessing a thoracic aorta, a pulmonary artery, during short time to exclude or confirm medical emergency. As it is reported in the hospital, accurate and early detection of serious diseases allows beginning treatment timely and correctly.
Multispiral computed coronary angiography is carried out practically non-invasively in contrast to classical selective x-ray angiography, as it does not require any manipulations except setting an intravenous catheter for injection of contrast agents. Researches are conducted during short time — all stages of the procedure in total take no more than 10-15 minutes. All the received information enables to assess condition of vasculature, blood vessel walls, to reveal peculiarities or malformations of blood vessels.
According to physicians of the vascular center of the hospital, the value of this method significantly increases with use for patients at the age of 40-60 years old with risk of ischemic heart disease. Multispiral computed tomography of a heart and blood vessels can be used as a screening method to determine the degree of calcification of coronary arteries of patients with risk factors, cardiac pains of obscure origin and to control the course of atherosclerotic disease.
