The Day of Russian Science. Scientists of Yamal are receiving congratulations

Today scientific sphere of Yamal is represented with the Arctic scientific and research station of the Institute of ecology of plants and animals, the Ural branch of the RAS, the regional scientific center for study of the Arctic and the non-commercial partnership “The Russian center for exploration of the Arctic”. 

In 2017 scientists of Yamal fulfilled 55 scientific and research activities. The following scientific directions are defined as priority: ecological monitoring, traditional economy, preservation of culture and life activity of indigenous ethnic minorities of the North in Yamal and also study of state of population’s health in Yamal.
“The roadmap” of scientific researches was elaborated to solve important issues in the sphere of activity of indigenous northerners. It includes a wide circle of issues – from education to medicine and ecology. Every year 30 and more scientific and research expeditions are conducted on the territory of Yamal-Nenets Autonomous Okrug, as the press-service of the governor of Yamal informs.
Scientific projects being fulfilled in the arctic region are conducted with attracting of specialists of different branches of knowledge, with introducing of new methods of researches. A big part of this work is fulfilled together with branch, academic and university science. The following projects are the example of such effective cooperation: creation of the seismologic network on the Yamal peninsula, stations for monitoring of wide specter of phenomena in the atmosphere, landscapes and ecological systems connected with climate change within the international scientific program PEEX (Pan-Eurasian Experiment), ecological monitoring of water areas of the Gulf of Ob, complex study of the lake Bolshoye Shchuchye and others. The Yamal sociological laboratory was created on the basis of the scientific center for study of the Arctic in cooperation of the Institute of sociology of the RAS, the Yamal ecological laboratory – with the Institute for Water and Environmental Problems, the Siberian branch of the RAS in Nadym.
Scientists of Yamal are participants of prestige international and Russian grants, their works are published in world scientific magazines being indexed in the database Web of Science, Scopus, the Russian database of scientific publications; scientists of Yamal publish their monographs and collections of articles. The scientific center for study of the Arctic publishes the scientific edition, which is the only one of that kind in the region, — “Nauchniy Vestnik YaNAO” (“Scientific herald of Yamal-Nenets Autonomous Okrug”) and the international collection “Archeology of the Arctic”. “Dialectological Atlas of the Uralic languages being spoken on the territory of Yamal” was published at the end of 2017. It is the many-year work that reflects the whole variety of speech of indigenous northerners. Work on creation of the Folkloristic archive of peoples residing in Yamal is continued in the scientific center for study of the Arctic.
As we should note, the governor of Yamal-Nenets Autonomous Okrug Dmitry Kobylkin also congratulated good partners of Yamal in conducting of scientific researches important for the region and the country. Telegrams with congratulations on behalf of the head of the arctic region were sent to: the chairman of the Siberian branch of the RAS, academician Valentin Parmon, the director of the Trofimuk Institute of Petroleum Geology and Geophysics, the Siberian branch of the RAS, academician Igor Yeltsov, the chairman of Tyumen scientific center, the Siberian branch of the RAS, academician Vladimir Melnikov, the chairman of the Ural branch of the RAS, academician Valery Charushin, the rector of the Gubkin Russian State University of Oil and Gas Viktor Martynov, the president of the Russian Academy of Sciences Alexander Sergeyev and other respected figures of science.
