Peoples of the Arctic. More than a hundred residents of Yamal got to the lens of the photo-camera

The photo-exhibition of Marina Longortova “Peoples of the Arctic” will be opened in the museum of history and archeology of Nadym on the 3rd of March. The exposition became the final stage of the regional media project with the same name, which is dedicated to peoples of Yamal living in severe conditions of the Far North, who knows how to be successful and happy. The idea of the project was suggested by residents of Yamalskiy district and supported by the governor of Yamal-Nenets Autonomous Okrug Dmitry Kobylkin.
The talented photographer from Yamal Marina Longortova during 4 months visited many remote towns, settlements and villages of Yamal. More than 100 people of different ages, nationalities and professions got into the lens of her photo-camera. They inspired the author.
The photo-exhibition “All that is mine with me all the time” dedicated to nomadic way of life of indigenous peoples will be started on the 2nd of March before the 23rd open traditional competitions of reindeer herders for the Cup of the governor of Yamal. Peculiarities of perception of time and space by modern nomads will be opened on the example of reindeer herders from around the world.
The argish will take the central part of the exposition. (The note: “argish” means “deer caravan”). It is more brightly symbolizes nomadic travelling with its length of migrations. It is possible to say that the argish is philosophy and the path of life of a northern person, a part of his of her outlook and social order. As the administration of Nadymskiy district informs, comparison of way of life of local nomads and reindeer-herding traditions in Finland, Canada, Mongolia, China will allow demonstrating specifics of northern nomadic way of life in Yamal-Nenets Autonomous Okrug.
The special attention on the exhibition will be paid to the event of 1997, when the Association “World Reindeer Herders” was created in Nadym on the first World congress of reindeer herders of the world.
