Ivan Girya, the outstanding geologist, is celebrating his 85th anniversary. The hero of the day was congratulated in the regional parliament of Tyumen Oblast (Duma).
Deputies of the regional Duma, representatives of fuel and energy enterprises, scientific institutes, veterans of geology participated in the celebration. The deputy head, the chief of the board on fulfillment of interregional relations of the representational office of Yamal-Nenets Autonomous Okrug in Tyumen Oblast Yevgeniy Shadrin passed warm congratulations to the countryman from the governor of Yamal Dmitry Kobylkin and the chairman of the Legislative Assembly of Yamal Sergey Yamkin.
Opening the meeting of the companions, colleagues — pioneer explorers, the regional parliamentarian, the Chairman of the Yamal Union of veterans Fuat Saifitdinov told about life and work of the hero — 50 years in geology. Ivan Girya, a graduate from Moscow Oil Institute named after Gubkin started his work in the settlement Beryozovo. He passed all steps of professional career — from an assistant driller to an assistant drilling foreman, then a drilling foreman, an engineer, a senior drilling engineer, the head of the team of deep drilling and soon the chief engineer Sartynyinskaya and Narykarskaya oil-prospecting expeditions of Tyumen geological administration.
He is the organizer of discovery of Urengoyskoye field. His suggestion on relocation of Narykarskaya oil-prospecting expedition from Khanty-Mansiysk Autonomous Okrug to Yamal-Nenets Autonomous Okrug was supported by the management board. In the shortest time Ivan Girya fulfilled the unique operation on relocation of the expedition in the district of Urengoy. The well R-2 was drilled there, today it became the landmark of Urengoy, it is shown to all guests of the town, and from which the powerful gas gusher was received on the 6th of June in 1966. Discovery of Urengoyskoye field allowed the Soviet Union to become the number-one country on explored gas reserves, as Fuat Saifitdinov says.
In the Old Urengoy there is a street named after Ivan Girya, and it confirms that contemporaries highly appreciated his contribution to development of the branch, as the Chairman of the Tyumen regional Duma Sergey Korepanov notes.
Ivan Girya participated in discovery and exploration of many fields in the gas-bearing Beryozovsky district of Khanty-Mansiysk Autonomous Okrug, of Urengoyskoye, Kharasaveyskoye, Gubkinskoye, Yamburgskoye, Bovanenkovo fields in Yamal-Nenets Autonomous Okrug.
Ivan Yakovlevich Girya was born on the 23rd of February in 1933 in the village of Kazanka, Nikolayev Oblast, Ukrainian Soviet Socialist Republic. In 1956 he graduated from Moscow Oil Institute named after I. M. Gubkin on the specialization “oil and gas wells drilling” and on the appointment went to Tyumen. The young man was sent to the settlement Beryozovo, where during some years he worked his way up from an assistant driller to a senior drilling engineer. In 1966 Ivan Girya — by that time the chief of Narykarskaya oil-prospecting expedition — took the landmark decision for the region and fulfilled the operation on relocation of the expedition from Khanty-Mansiysk Autonomous Okrug to Yamal-Nenets Autonomous Okrug, where he discovered the unique gas field in June of the same year.
Later, being the head of the technological service of the main Tyumen production geological department (“Glavtyumengeologiya”), Ivan Girya was responsible for fulfillment of special work in the north of the region, repeatedly was the deputy chairman of the state commission for conducting of underground nuclear explosions to study the structure of the earth’s crust. He participated in discovery and exploration of a row of extractive fields in Yugra and Yamal.
For discovery of large and unique natural gas fields in northern regions of Western Siberia, their effective exploration and preparation of industrial reserves Ivan Girya was awarded with the Lenin Prize in 1970 among the group of specialists. He was awarded with the Order of the Red Banner of Labor (1966), “The Badge of Honor” (1981), the medals “For valiant labor. In commemoration of the 100th anniversary of the birth of V. I. Lenin” (1970), the Medal “For the Tapping of the Subsoil and Expansion of the Petrochemical Complex of Western Siberia” (1983), “Veteran of labor” (1985), “In recognition for services in subsoil exploration” (1983). He was awarded with bronze and golden medals of VDNKh (the Russian acronym for the All-Union Exhibition of Achievements of National Economy) for development and introduction of new technologies in geological prospecting production (1976, 1978). He was marked with the decoration “The excellent achiever of subsoil prospecting” (1983).
In 1987 Ivan Girya was awarded with the Prize of the Council of Ministers of the RSFSR “For creation and development of high-performance machinery, advanced technology and new materials on production in 1986”.
