Specialists will learn everything about the wild reindeer on Beliy Island

The department of nature-resource regulation, forestry relations and development of oil and gas complex of Yamal-Nenets Autonomous Okrug prepared the auction documentation for rendering of services on the monitoring of state of the Yamal-Beliy Island wild reindeer population. The monitoring will be conducted within borders of the North Yamal area of the natural reserve “Yamalskiy”, which includes Beliy Island, to receive modern information on spread, number, physical state, structure, quality and area of environment of the wild reindeer. This information was given in the press-service of the governor of Yamal.
The monitoring is conducted in order timely to prevent and liquidate consequences of negative processes and phenomena, to preserve biological diversity, to provide stable state of objects of the animal world and their scientifically substantiated use.
The monitoring includes air accounting of the number of the Yamal Beliy Island wild reindeer population in conformity with methods being used in Russian and world practice.
It should be noted that in 2017, by the order of the department, the monitoring of the peregrine falcon was conducted. This bird is listed in the Red Book of Russia. The assessment of the information on density, breeding success of the peregrine falcon on the area under the monitoring was given according to the results. The map of its breeding areas was made; recommendations aimed at preservation of the peregrine falcon population in the Autonomous Okrug were given.
In general, according to experts of Institute of ecology of plants and animals, the Ural branch of the RAS, who performed the monitoring, the status of the Yamal population of the peregrine falcon can be described as good enough. The total population size during the breeding season can be estimated in the range of 625-800 individuals, 300-385 pairs make nests.
