The ice-resistant platform “The North Pole” planned for building will become a real scientific and research ship to study the Arctic Ocean.
This information was given by the director of the department of state policy and regulation in the sphere of water resources and hydro-meteorology under the Ministry for nature of Russia Dmitry Kirillov to RIA “Novosti”.
According to the information given earlier, the government of Russia will allocate almost seven milliard rubles for building of the ice-resistant self-moving platform “The North Pole”. It is planned to input the platform to operation in 2020.
As Dmitry Kirillov notes, it is not just a floating house in ice but a real scientific and research ship with corresponding scientific equipment, which will not be transported from the continent, it will be placed on the platform on the permanent basis. Potential of the ship will allow conducting all necessary studies on state, quality and move of ice, water, sea spaces, dynamics of ice forming and many others, as he says.
According to Dmitry Kirillov, creation of conditions modern and comfortable for polar explorers to conduct arctic expeditions is the basic task in building of the platform.
It needs to note that the government of the country understands significance of the project, which is one of priorities in development of the Arctic, the Northern Sea Route, cargo transportations on it, what will decrease time of cargo shipment between Europe and Asia.
Also Dmitry Kirillov notes that the Arctic is a region fragile from the point of view of ecology. It is easy to disturb it, but it will take tens of years to restore. Such ice-resistant platform is necessary to observe over possible influences on ecological system of the Arctic in the result of active economic development of the Northern Sea Route, as he says.
