The ethnic festival “Soul of Tundra”. Different songs were performed by singers from Khakasiya, Tyva and Yakutia

The grandiose concert of ethnic music took place on the 11th of June in the regional center for national cultures in the town Salekhard. It became the final event of the festival “Soul of Tundra”, which lasted three days.
The famous Yakut khomus player, virtuoso Aisen Ammosov (khomus is a mouth harp), the honored actress of the Tyva Republic, a unique ethnic performer Saylyk Kongar and the ethno-rock band “Irenek Khan” performed on the stage. Town-dwellers together with the musicians made the travel along melodies of ancient times, heard throat singing and got acquainted with musical views of the singers on modern music.
“Irenek Khan” was formed in 2007 and during long time performed as an amateur collective, and only last year the musicians became the professional group. Now “Irenek Khan” is known far beyond Khakasiya, the musicians participate in different international festivals. In their creative work the musicians use folklore of Khakasiya and Altai in own arrangement and interpretation. They sing in 4 languages: Khakass, Altai, Kazakh and Russian.
According to the head of the group Igor Kolesnikov, the musicians always try to do something new in order their compositions would sound in a new way every time. For residents of Salekhard they prepared the musical surprise – songs in new arrangement. It will be one more step in their creative work.
According to the organizers of the festival, the ethnic festival “Soul of Tundra” opened a very important page in preservation of traditional culture and everyday life of northern peoples, and it means that the festival has the big future ahead.
