The amount of mineral resources production in the Arctic can reach 63 million tonnes by 2024. This information was given by the head of the Ministry for natural resources Dmitry Kobylkin at the meeting on priority tasks of development of the Russian Arctic zone.
According to Dmitry Kobylkin, by 2024 production of liquefied natural gas can reach 32 million tonnes, condensate and oil — 9 million tonnes, coal — 19 million tonnes, the amount of other cargoes — about 3 million tonnes. The total amount will make 63 million tonnes.
Behind the Polar Circle there are about 60 large hydrocarbon fields, 43 of which are in the Russian sector, as TASS reports. The total extractable resources of the Russian Arctic are estimated at 106 milliard tonnes of oil equivalent, gas reserves — 69 trillion and 500 milliard cubic meters.
