Tourists from different countries saw 77 polar bears in Russian Arctic National Park

During the past tourist season citizens of 41 countries visited Russian Arctic National Park. At the same time, the share of tourists from China made 33% of the total number of visitors, citizens of Germany and Switzerland are on second place – 13%, and representatives of the USA are on the third – 12%.
This year the share of Russian citizens made 8% of the total number of visitors to the Park. Also among those, who are actively interested in the Russian Arctic, there are Japanese, British, Australians, Canadians and New Zealanders. For the first time, the islands of the polar archipelagos of Franz Josef Land and Novaya Zemlya were visited by citizens of Argentina, El Salvador, Serbia, Thailand and Nigeria. In total 1079 people visited the largest national park of Russia during the ten cruise journeys from June to August, as the press service of the Ministry for natural resources of the Russian Federation informs.
According to the director of Russian Arctic National Park Alexander Kirilov, the majority of visitors are people at the age from 51 to 70 years old; from year to year they make up almost a half of the total number of tourists. Also the age group from 71 to 90 years old was big this year — 222 people.
The tourists saw 53 polar bears in summer during cruise journeys on the territory of the national park.
“In total our visitors were able to see 77 bears in the wild nature, and for many of them it is the main purpose of the journey”, as Alexander Kirilov underlined.
In addition, from 2012 to 2018 more than 6500 people from 70 countries visited Russian Arctic National Park.
