“Gazprom Neft” suggests creating a technological site in Yamal to study and develop reserves of the Achimov Formation. Such plans were announced by the chairman of the Board of the company Alexander Dyukov at the conference on technological development of oil industry, which was conducted by Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Kozak.
According to expert estimates, extractable reserves of Achimov deposits range from 0.5 to 1 milliard tonnes of liquid hydrocarbons. However, it needs to overcome a row of technological challenges order to involve them in development. “Gazprom Neft” has already created the first digital model of the Achimov Formation in the branch, having studied its objects in six regions of Russia on the territory of more than 1 million 500 thousand square kilometers, mainly in Yamal-Nenets Autonomous Okrug and Khanty-Mansiysk Autonomous Okrug. The company suggests creating a technological site on the basis of one of its license areas in Yamal, as the press service of “Gazprom Neft” informs. Thus, for developing and testing of technologies on exploration of the Achimov Formation it will be possible to combine efforts of participants of the branch, scientific community, manufacturers of equipment and the state.
“Traditional extractive fields in Western Siberia are being depleted, and the amount of the so-called “light” crude, which can be extracted with technologies of the last century, is becoming smaller. And demand on hydrocarbons is not only not decreasing but growing. Therefore, one of the main goals for Russian oil industry is to create new effective technologies and equipment for working with hard-to-recover and unconventional reserves. Thus, only solving the problem on cost-effective development of the Achimov Formation can provide additional production of 20-40 million tonnes of oil per year”, Alexander Dyukov said.
The Achimov Formation includes layers located in the lower part of Cretaceous deposits practically directly above the Bazhenov Formation (a group of rock formations in Western Siberia lying at depths from two to three kilometers). The Achimov Formation is spread in the central zone of the West Siberian basin, the most powerful layers are revealed in Nadymskiy and Purovsky districts of Yamal-Nenets Autonomous Okrug. Achimov layers are characterized with complex geological structure, what requires using technologically complex methods in development of these reserves.
