The icebreaker “Ob” will start its operation at “Yamal LNG” next year

“Atomflot” plans to receive the port icebreaker “Ob” for work at “Yamal LNG” in the second quarter of 2019. This information was given by the project manager for development of cargo transportation in the Yenisei basin of “Atomflot” Andrey Makarov.
“It is difficult to plan, but we hope that by the end of May we shall receive it”, he told Interfax on the sidelines of the conference “Arctic shelf development: step by step”.
According to Andrey Makarov, construction of the port icebreaker is lagging behind the schedule for six months, and now “Ob” would have been in the Gulf of Ob. According to his estimates, taking into account ice class of “Ob”, the new icebreaker will be brought to work in Sabetta at the end of the third — the beginning of the fourth quarter of next year.
The port icebreaker “Ob” is being built at “Vyborg Shipyard”, on the 21st of June it was launched to water. The length of the vessel being built according to the project Aker Arc 124 is 89.5 meters, the width — 21.9 meters, the deadweight — 750 tonnes. Its capacity allows making the way through the ice with the thickness of 1.5 meters at the speed of 2 knots.
In November 2014 “Atomflot” signed the comprehensive contract for icebreaking support of ships and servicing of water area of the port of Sabetta for the project “Yamal LNG” till the 31st of December of 2040. In total, four vessels were built for “Yamal LNG” under the project “Portoflot”. Two tugboats ARC4 “Pur” and “Tambey” designed for seasonal work were delivered to Atomflot in May and June of 2016. Two other tugboats Arc6 “Yuribey” and “Nadym” for year-round operation were delivered to “Atomflot” in November of 2017 and June of 2018, respectively. The port icebreaker “Ob” will become the fifth vessel.
