The Yamal Factory of scientific thought started its work in Saint Petersburg. Young people will be involved into arctic projects

The in-person stage of the Factory of scientific thought of young people “The Cold World Resources: Yamal and the Arctic” started its work in the town Pushkin (St. Petersburg). This is a contest of projects in the sphere of natural and technical sciences being conducted together with the All-Russian Institute of Plant Protection and Tyumen State University. The contest is organized with the aim to educate future scientific personnel of Yamal and to attract students and postgraduate students to studying of the Arctic, to involve young people in research activities. Alexander Palagin, the head of the regional representational office in St. Petersburg, addressed the participants with the welcoming speech.
“Projects of Yamal are designed for years to come”, — he said. – “Young scientific personnel with deep knowledge about the Arctic, changes in economy, in social sphere and ecology of all territories will be attracted to fulfill them. Today’s students and postgraduates are the strategic potential for us”, he said.
The chairperson of the Council of young scientists and specialists under the governor of Yamal-Nenets Autonomous Okrug Galina Tumanova underlined: “We hope that the event will mark the beginning of long and fruitful cooperation between the country’s leading higher education institutions and the region, will contribute to creation of the reserve of future scientific personnel of Yamal”.
The educational program was prepared for the participants of the project; leading specialists of St. Petersburg will read lectures in between the defenses of the contest papers. Thus, the director of the Science and Technology Foresight Center at ITMO University Natalia Lukovnikova will tell, what science of the future will be busy with. A corresponding member of the RAS, a member of the Commission against pseudoscience and falsification of scientific research Nikolay Rozanov will explain how to distinguish science from pseudoscience. Candidate of biological sciences, associate Professor and scientific secretary of Eco-Vector Publishing House Sergey Mylnikov will share his experience how to present information. The head of the student media department at ITMO University Aleksey Itin will explain why popularization of science is necessary.
