The deputy minister of energy of the Russian Federation Pavel Sorokin spoke on the International scientific and technical conference on development of oil and gas resources of the Russian shelf: the Arctic and the Far East. He marked the important role of shelf extraction in development of Russian industry.
“Actually, we see forming of a new branch of industry, which will involve the big number of contractors and will attract unique human potential. For the present moment, it is a little studied area for us, but with big prospects”, he said.
According to the deputy minister of energy of the Russian Federation, policy of import substitution of technologies being conducted now is one of the most important components, due to which forming of the branch of shelf extraction takes place. Production and export of liquefied natural gas (LNG), in his opinion, will become another locomotive of development of the branch, as the press service of the Ministry for energy informs.
“Exactly liquefied gas in much will have principal significance for economy of the Arctic. Russia has already increased its presence on the world LNG market. At favorable development our potential in annual calculation can make about 100 million tonnes. The already started projects “Yamal LNG” and “Sakhalin 2” will participate in this share, and also “Baltic LNG” – in the coming future”, as Pavel Sorokin explains.
According to him, growth of transshipment of LNG will lead to increase in load of the Northern Sea Route and its development as a separate new trade route.
“Development of the Northern Sea Route will become actually the revolution for the world trade. We shall open the new trade route, what will lead to explosive development of the whole Arctic. It is the big start for domestic shipyards, potential decrease in transport expenditures for all arctic projects. Therefore, one of our basic tasks is to show that during the reasonable time we can give a resource to any consumer, who will follow the competitive price”, as Pavel Sorokin underlined.
