The new monograph by Natalia Tsymbalistenko “Tundra Attraction” (Tundrovoye Prityazheniye) was published. The book as the author’s previous works is dedicated to creative work of poets and writers of Yamal. A literary critic, doctor of Philology, the head of the sector for social and humanitarian research at the Center for study of the Arctic Natalia Tsymbalistenko traces the process of development of Yamal literature, opens new names, examines previously unstudied works, draws parallels and typological analogies of published works with famous works by Russian and foreign authors. At the end of the monograph she provides reference information about all writers of Yamal-Nenets Autonomous Okrug. This information was given in the scientific center for study of the Arctic.
According to Natalia Tsymbalistenko, in her monograph she tried to show that modern literature of Yamal stops being purely provincial and is reaching the new level – the world one.
In the opinion of the author, during the whole 20th and the beginning of 21st century literature of indigenous peoples of the arctic region successfully developed and passed all stages characteristic for historical development of European literatures. Writers and poets of the region raise important social, political, historical, emotional and spiritual issues characteristics for the whole modern society. Favorable socioeconomic and cultural-legal development of indigenous peoples in the region will be the basis of successful further development of literature of Yamal.
“Only a free person on the land belonging to him or her and in decent conditions can move further in such a fragile matter requiring dedication, which literary creativity is”, as the literary critic writes.
The monograph was published by the scientific center for study of the Arctic and will be interesting for all connoisseurs of modern literature, devoted readers of poets and writers of Yamal, also for teachers of literature and students.
