The captain of the gas carrier “Christophe de Margerie” Sergey Zybko was awarded with the order “For Naval Merit”. The award for the great contribution to fulfillment of the project on creation and the beginning of operation of the world’s first icebreaking tanker — LNG carrier “Christophe de Margerie” was given in the Kremlin, by President Vladimir Putin.
“Me and my team had the honor to participate in historical events on the way to development of the Russian Arctic. Never before have vessels of this size been able to operate during the whole year-round and autonomously in such extreme navigation and ice conditions. The company Sovcomflot developed effective and safe logistics for the project “Yamal LNG”. It is very pleasant that the charterer appreciated these merits and entrusted the vessel of our company with transportation of the first LNG consignment. On behalf of the crew of the tanker — gas carrier “Christophe de Margerie”, on behalf of our entire team, I want to express my deep gratitude for high appreciation of our work”, captain Zybko said at the awarding ceremony.
Sergey Zybko is one of the most experienced and professionally competent captains of Sovcomflot gas carriers. He dedicated more than 34 years of his life to the sea, as it is reported to the news agency “Sever-Press” in the press-service of “Sovcomflot”.
“Christophe de Margerie” is a pilot vessel of the series of 15 large-tonnage gas carriers intended for year-round transportation of liquefied natural gas in difficult ice conditions of the Kara Sea and the Gulf of Ob within the project “Yamal LNG”. Unique technical and design solutions, large propulsion capacity comparable to a nuclear-powered icebreaker and high Arc7 ice class allow “Christophe de Margerie” safely to transport LNG in extreme climate conditions. Operation of the tanker under the project was started in December, 2017. Starting with that time, within the project “Yamal LNG”, it fulfilled 16 trips, within which 1 million 200 thousand tonnes of LNG were delivered to consumers.
