The nuclear-powered icebreakers “Yamal” and “Taymyr” start working in the Gulf of Ob since the 1st of December. “Yamal” will work in the Kara Sea and water areas of the Gulf of Ob, according to the contract with “Yamal LNG”, and “Taymyr” – in direction to Mys Kamenniy. Till the end of December the nuclear-powered icebreakers “50 Let Pobedy” and “Vaygach” will stay at the homeport in Murmansk, but already since the 1st of January of 2019 they will start working on water areas of the Northern Sea Route, as energybase.ru informs.
On the 27th of November the nuclear-powered icebreaker “Yamal” completed icebreaking support of the ship “Tambey” belonging to the Transport company Northern project. This trip was the final in the summer-autumn navigation season of ships of Rosatomflot.
“Ice situation on water area of the Northern Sea Route corresponds to average annual values”, as the adviser of the director general of “Atomflot” Leonid Irlitsa said. – “From June to November nuclear-powered icebreakers of Rosatomflot fulfilled 70 operations on icebreaking piloting, in total approximately 520 thousand cargoes were transported. The gross capacity of all supported ships makes more than 1 million and 60 thousand tonnes.
According to Leonid Irlitsa, icebreaking support of 38 ships to the west was conducted during 5 months on the Northern Sea Route, and 32 – to the east. 52 ships of them went under the flag of the Russian Federation. For comparison, within the summer-autumn navigation season of 2017 the nuclear-powered icebreakers fulfilled 87 operations on icebreaking support of ships, but their gross capacity made 640 thousand tonnes.
