Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev participated in the launch of the third stage of the plant “Yamal LNG” and conducted the conference in Sabetta dedicated to development of the Arctic.
“The Arctic region is not only the largest raw material reserve of the country, it is of strategic significance for Russia as the arctic power. We should concentrate efforts on fulfillment of large anchor projects. Their startup will create completely other conditions for development of the Northern Sea Route and will demand for its year-round load”, as the head of the government of the Russian Federation noted at the conference.
According to him, reserves of natural resources in the Arctic zone make 7 milliard 300 million tonnes of oil and about 55 trillion cubic meters of gas, as the press service of the government of the Russian Federation informs.
“Of course, the data that we have can change. But the talk is about not only hydrocarbons. Many extractive fields are unique. Reserves of platinum, diamonds, gold and other, including strategic metals, were discovered in the Arctic zone”, Dmitry Medvedev said.
As he underlines, at fulfillment of projects in the Arctic zone it is impossible to forget about ecology. Presence in the region should not do damage to environment, as it was earlier.
“We already are busy with cleaning of the Arctic. More than 100 dumps were found on its territory, 80 thousand tonnes of wastes were removed, and more than 200 hectares of lands were reclaimed. And this work should be continued”, Prime Minister underlined.
Also he informed that he had taken the decision about renewal of the staff of the State Commission on Arctic Development and signed the corresponding document. The commission will be headed by Deputy Prime Minister Yuriy Trutnev.
