The expedition sent by the Russian center for exploration of the Arctic to the area of Sabetta, Bovanenkovo and Kharasaveyskoye fields for technical servicing of the seismological monitoring network came back to Salekhard. The network was created on the Yamal peninsula in 2017.
On the 25th of February the head of the office of the Russian center for exploration of the Arctic Stanislav Timoshenko told journalists about the expedition. On the 13th of February they went to add equipment on the station for stable transmission of data to processing servers. The participants of the expedition set additional antennas, replaced SIM cards and conducted tests. Data of the autonomously operating stations are necessary to reveal seismic accidents on the territory of the region. In the real time mode they transmit information about happening destructive changes of cryolithozone to the center for automatic data processing to Salekhard and its central computer of the unified Geophysical service of the Russian Academy of sciences. For example, these are such events as forming of gas emission funnels, different cases of soil subsidence as a result of mineral extraction.
According to Stanislav Timoshenko, the stations were set shortly before forming of the funnel near Seyakha and set the exact time and coordinates of the event.
Mikhail Pyatunin, an employee of the geophysical service of the Russian academy of sciences, notes that the Russian network of seismological monitoring is very large, it includes several hundred stations, and its main part is located in seismically dangerous regions: the Caucasus, Siberia, the Far East. Seismically the Far North is not active, but stations here are necessary to clarify the situation. Earlier long-term research on the Yamal Peninsula was not carried out and, perhaps, some seismic events were not registered.
