The chairman of the board of NOVATEK Leonid Mikhelson made a report to the President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin on activity and plans of the company. The transcript of the conversation was published by the press service of the Kremlin. According to Leonid Mikhelson, development of LNG is the main thing in the strategy of today’s NOVATEK.
“In December of 2017 You opened the first line of “Yamal LNG”, and in December last year we launched it at the full capacity – 16 million 500 thousand tonnes, and today every 33 hours a tanker is shipped with 70 thousand tonnes of LNG”, the head of the company said.
According to him, orders for about 650 milliard rubles were placed on Russian enterprises, 55 regions were involved in the process of construction.
“What is very important, we have started construction of the fourth line, and this line on NOVATEK technology is completely based on Russian equipment. It is experimental-industrial, about one million tonnes. We shall test it next year and shall get customs clearance for them”, Leonid Mikhelson said.
Also, according to him, a month later the company will launch the medium-tonnage LNG-plant in Vysotsk, Leningrad Oblast. The capacity of the first line will make 600 thousand tonnes. Next year, probably, the decision on two more lines will be taken, it means plus 1 million 200 thousand tonnes.
“The main thing is that we have started the second project “Arctic LNG 2”, the capacity is already 19 million 800 thousand tonnes. We have much communication with our industrial enterprises, more than one trillion rubles of orders on Russian enterprises are expected”, Leonid Mikhelson said.
He also reports on construction of the center for building of marine structures, where platforms will be made. The amount of investments in Murmansk Oblast is about 120 milliard rubles. It is planned to launch the first stage of this production in the middle of this year.
According to Leonid Mikhelson, today the strategy of NOVATEK envisages 57 million tonnes of LNG production by 2030. In a year or two it can be revised upwards — up to 70 million tonnes.
In the May decree the head of the state set the aim to bring the cargo traffic on the Northern Sea Route up to 80 million tonnes. NOVATEK expects that more than 50% of this amount will consist of its cargo traffic — more than 46 million tonnes. The company intends to organize two transshipment centers — in Murmansk Oblast and Kamchatka.
“Last year two large conferences were held with our possible manufacturers. More than 800 enterprises, we expect, will be involved in the construction process. We shall create 12 thousand working places in Murmansk Oblast, and more than 80 thousand — in Russia. According to our estimates, it will give 0.15% of the gross domestic product every year during 10 years, what is the huge amount”, Michelson concluded.
