More than seven thousand gas workers received access to mobile internet and voice services in Yamal. MTS became the first company to provide sustainable LTE coverage in key extractive fields of NOVATEK, Gazprom and LUKOIL: previously, high-speed mobile internet of the fourth generation was not available at these sites. Gas and oil workers of 10 extractive fields can go online at speeds up to 70 MB/s: Samburgskoye, Nakhodkinskoye, Yaro-Yakhinskoye, the West Yaro-Yakhinskoye, Pestsovoye, the East Tarkosalinskoye, Barsukovskoye, Tarasovskoye, the North-Urengoyskoye, Tazovskoye. This information was given to the news agency “Sever-Press” in the press-service of “MTS” in Yamal.
Data transfer rate allows watching movies in HD on a smart phone, downloading music and useful mobile applications directly on the territory of housing complexes for workers. Gas and oil workers of Yamal have already started actively to use LTE: according to MTS, the traffic on the updated base stations 2-3 times increased. First of all, communication with “the big land” goes through social networks and messengers – Vkontakte, Whatsapp, Viber.
At some sites communication appeared for the first time. Among them there is Salmanovskoye field, the largest and most promising center for development of extractive industry of the Gydan Peninsula. Gas workers of Festivalnoye, Kharampurskoye, the South-Kharampurskoye, Kholmistoye and Chatylkinskoye fields can use connection for communication and entertainment. MTS is the only operator on all these territories.
“In 2019 we shall continue improving communication in extractive fields of Yamal as actively as we did in the previous year. The instant growth of the traffic in the network speaks that gas and oil workers are in great need of high-speed internet, because a smart phone in the field is one of the main ways to stay in touch with the mainland. Development of the MTS network has significant prospects in the B2B segment. Appearing of stable coverage is the basis for “digitalization” of the Far North: on its basis it is possible to develop the technology of the Internet of things and cloud services, complex developments in the sphere of system integration. All of this eventually must lead to formation of “smart extractive fields”, said the director of the MTS branch in Yamal-Nenets Autonomous Okrug Alexander Samuylov.
As it should be reminded, in 2018 MTS expanded the LTE network coverage in Komsomolskoye, Yubileynoye, Zapolyarnoye, Urengoyskoye fields. The company also continued development and coverage of 2G and 3G networks. Work on the new coverage is completed in Bovanenkovo, the South-Messoyakhskoye, the East-Messoyakhskoye, Pyakyakhinskoye, Severo-Russkoye, Severo-Komsomolskoye, Khalmer-Payutinskoye fields and in the village of Sabetta. On the territory of the latter ones MTS is currently the only operator functioning in 2G and 3G communication standards.
