A subsidiary of Rosneft, the company Tyumenneftegaz, drilled 15 multilateral wells in 2018 in Russkoye field in Yamal-Nenets Autonomous Okrug, what is by 30% more than a year before. The total length of all drilled horizontal boreholes and their branches made more than 16 thousand meters. The technology allows increasing the startup oil flow rate in comparison to a traditional horizontal borehole by 20-30%.
Geological features of Russkoye field make construction of multilateral wells the most effective, as the board of the information policy of Rosneft informs. Despite the fact that the process of drilling and completion of wells requires use of high technologies, their cost is significantly lower than in construction of individual wells or in drilling of sidetracks. This structure allows significantly increasing coverage of oil-saturated thicknesses in comparison with a traditional horizontal well. Branches can move away in any direction from the horizontal borehole and open separate oil intervals without disturbing of the design grid of wells. During the past three years the growth of the commercial drilling speed in Russkoye field was increased by 30% and the duration of drilling was decreased by 16%. It considerably reduced the cost of construction of wells.
The obtained results confirm that the technology of drilling of multilateral wells was successfully adapted to conditions of Russkoye field. The company plans to drill more than 100 multilateral horizontal wells in the medium-term prospect.
