The fifth International Arctic Forum “The Arctic — Territory of Dialogue” will be held in St. Petersburg on the 9th and the 10th of April. A separate session will be devoted to development of construction of modern ships within the “Open Ocean” topic of the business program.
Promising engines operating on more environmentally friendly and cost-efficient fuels, materials and structures, onboard systems, technologies of ships protection from ice and decrease in ice loads are actively being developed now in the shipbuilding sector, as it is informed on the website of RosCongress. Also innovative activity is conducted in the part of designing of devices for autonomic and remote control of large vessels for transportation of dangerous cargoes and decrease in cost of transportations. Till 2024 it is planned to build four icebreakers on liquefied natural gas for year-round shipment of raw materials from the port of Sabetta.
“Shipbuilding is a sector of economy, on development of which potential of trade-economic relations between Russia and the world’s leading countries depends, and, as a consequence, improvement of the world economic situation in general”, said the adviser to the President of the Russian Federation Anton Kobyakov. “The main attention today is focused on construction of the nuclear-powered icebreaker fleet to expand potential of commercial navigation in the Russian Arctic. And within business program of the International Arctic forum the participants will get acquainted with achievements of the branch, as well as seriously will work on innovative projects that will help to make a breakthrough in the Russian shipbuilding sector”.
Another session of the Arctic forum will focus on the topic of production and use of liquefied natural gas (LNG) in the Arctic, what is closely related to shipbuilding. It is expected that the discussion will be attended by the Minister of energy of Russia Alexander Novak. The participants will discuss projects on extension of one of the most promising directions in gas industry. As the experts consider, Russia received a real chance to become one of the world leaders on this market with the launch of LNG projects in Yamal. It is assumed that half of the planned cargo traffic on the Northern Sea Route will consist of exactly LNG.
Cutting-edge technologies in shipbuilding will be demonstrated within the event of the company “Modern commercial fleet” (Sovcomflot), which will be held on one of the vessels from the series of “green” large-capacity tankers of “Aframax” size. The company’s authorities will demonstrate to the audience the cutting-edge technologies of this newest tanker, which has already set the new safety and quality standard for the global shipping industry that corresponds to the state program of Russia and regulations of the country’s government on acceleration of introduction of gas motor fuel in transport.
