The year of indigenous languages in Russia starts in Yugra. Vladimir Putin welcomes the forum participants

The international forum on the year of indigenous languages in Russia will be opened in Khanty-Mansiysk on the 21st of March. Delegates from 35 regions — representatives of indigenous ethnic minorities, scientific and teaching communities, public associations and authorities will participate in it.
The director of the regional department on affairs of indigenous ethnic minorities of the North Inna Sotruyeva, representatives of the scientific center for study of the Arctic, teachers of native languages and employees of the national newspaper “Lukh Avt” will work at the forum from Yamal. The specialists from Yamal will participate in sections and roundtables, where they will discuss topical issues on development of native languages and native literature, will share their experience and teaching methods. In particular, Inna Sotruyeva plans to tell the colleagues about the best practices and projects of Yamal on support of native languages.
The event will start with the opening ceremony and the presentation of the exhibition dedicated to the thematic year. The plenary session “One world — thousands voices”, which will be attended by about 500 people, will take place after that. They are representatives of science, the public, teachers of native languages from all over the country, representatives of authorities of Russian regions, as well as countries of Latin America and the Caribbean basin, the Republic of Nepal, Finland, the People’s Republic of China and others, as the press service of the government of Khanty-Mansiysk Autonomous Okrug –Yugra informs.
The President of Russia Vladimir Putin sent the welcome address to the participants, organizers and guests of the international forum “The Year of indigenous languages in Russia” in Khanty-Mansiysk.
“The problem of preservation of indigenous languages is of global importance, without exaggeration”, as the head of the state noted. – “It is symbolic that 2019 has been declared the international Year of indigenous languages by the UN General Assembly. Today our country joins this popular initiative. We are rightfully proud of the status of one of the largest powers, where representatives of about 200 nationalities live in peace and harmony”.
As the President underlines in his welcome speech, the Russian state will continue fulfilling comprehensive, creative and painstaking work being aimed at “support of all languages of peoples in our multinational country, involving experts, teachers, public organizations, national and ethnic communities and mass media in this great and responsible work”.
