Icebreaking gas carriers for “Yamal LNG” received names of Soviet explorers of the Arctic

Four icebreaking gas carriers in South Korea were named in honor of the great Soviet explorers of the Arctic. More than 150 people gathered at the ceremony dedicated to this event.
In the presence of CEO of Teekay Corporation Kenneth Hvid, the deputy head of NOVATEK Lev Feodosiyev and representatives of “Yamal LNG” the gas carriers were named: “Nikolay Yevgenov”, “Vladimir Voronin”, “Georgiy Ushakov” and “Yakov Gakkel”. The vessels were built at Okpo Shipyard of Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering, as the Agency of oil and gas information reports.
In 2014 the South Korean company Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering received orders for construction of 15 icebreaking gas carriers for the sum 320 million dollars. 10 of the vessels have already been launched to water. All the gas carriers have the length 299 meters, the width 50 meters, are able to carry 172 thousand 600 cubic meters of LNG and to crush ice with the thickness up to 2.1 meters.
