The largest shipping company in Russia “Sovcomflot” plans to input to operation two Aframax tankers of Russian construction operating on environmentally friendly gas motor fuel till the end of September, 2022. This information was given to journalists by the first deputy director general — the chief engineer of Sovcomflot Igor Tonkovidov.
“Production of such vessels (on LNG fuel) will be localized on “Zvezda”; we ordered two vessels there in continuation of “the green series” of Sovcomflot. We shall receive these vessels in June and September of 2022”, he said.
Within the Eastern Economic Forum-2018 Rosneft, Zvezda and Sovcomflot signed the agreement on construction of two environmentally friendly oil tankers of Aframax size. Both tankers will be operated under the Russian flag, as it is informed on energybase.ru.
The length of the tanker is 250 meters, the width — 44 meters, the draft — 15 meters, the deadweight — 114 thousand tonnes, the speed — 14.6 knots.
The ships will work on LNG, what will allow using them in areas of restrictions on emissions of sulfur oxides, nitrogen and greenhouse gases — these are the seas that wash Europe, as well as the east coast of the USA. In comparison with traditional fuels use of LNG can considerably reduce emissions into the atmosphere.
In addition to the Aframax tankers, in December of 2018 at the Zvezda shipbuilding complex Sovcomflot ordered construction of three new-generation MR-class product carrier tankers, which will use LNG fuel as the main one.
