Forming of the logistics scheme for year-round shipment and transportation of oil from Novoportovskoye field (Yamal-Nenets Autonomous Okrug) was completed. Setting on duty of the company’s second icebreaker “Andrey Vilkitsky” in the Gulf of Ob and the beginning of operation of the world’s first digital management system of arctic logistics “Kapitan” (“Captain”) became the final stage of the project, fulfillment of which took four years.
The terminal “Vorota Arktiki” installed in waters of the Gulf of Ob is the key element of the unique transport system. It is the world’s only oil terminal operating in fresh water and difficult ice conditions. Thanks to commissioning of the object in 2016, it became possible to provide year-round shipment of oil “Novy Port” from Novoportovskoye field.
12 variants for oil shipment, including transportation by railroad and along a pressure pipeline were considered at the start of the project. However, delivery of hydrocarbons by water transport along the Northern Sea Route became the most effective variant, as the company reports.
Special conditions of the Gulf of Ob required forming of own tanker and icebreaker fleets capable of working in shallow water. Six tankers of the series “Shturman” Arc7 class, which can overcome the ice with the thickness up to 2.5 meters, were built by order of “Gazprom Neft” to deliver oil to the storage tanker in the Kola Bay. In addition, two powerful diesel-electric icebreakers of new generation – “Alexander Sannikov” and “Andrey Vilkitsky” are on duty around the clock in the Gulf of Ob.
Commenting on this event, the governor of Yamal-Nenets Autonomous Okrug Dmitry Artyukhov notes that construction of infrastructure is the key link in solving the strategic task on development of the Arctic.
“Without creation of reliable transport communication it is impossible to develop new promising extractive fields, which in large numbers are situated in the north of the region. Projects of large companies allow developing not only the region, but also the whole country. Last year Yamal allocated more than 1 trillion rubles of taxes to the federal budget”, the head of the region said.
Since the beginning of fulfillment of the project investments in development of Novoportovskoye field have made more than 300 milliard rubles. 11 infrastructural objects were input to operation, more than 15 million tonnes of oil were extracted during this time.
“For several decades no one could approach rich extractive fields of Yamal precisely because of the lack of transport infrastructure. Having found the only cost-effective way to transport arctic oil, having created the effective logistics scheme, we not only ensured development of Novoportovskoye field, we “opened up” the new large oil province” the first deputy director general of “Gazprom Neft” Vadim Yakovlev said.
