The regional coordinator of the project “Rossiyskoye Selo” (Russian rural areas) Timur Akchurin discussed issues of fulfillment of the project “The memory of the 501st railroad building and development of ethno-tourism” with an individual entrepreneur Yevgeniy Seraskhov. The package of documents that included the business-project of the same title necessary for participation in the contest for grants of the department on affairs of indigenous ethnic minorities of the North, Yamal-Nenets Autonomous Okrug was prepared by the results of the meeting.
“It is fine that reindeer herders supported our idea on creation of the little museum about historical events”, Timur Akchurin said to a correspondent of the news agency “Sever-Press”. – “Yamal is a unique place, where constructions – witnesses of Stalin’s time – were preserved in the original. The time of building of the transpolar railroad line №501-503 “Choum-Salekhard-Igarka” (“The Dead Road”) by convicts of GULAG arouses big interest in Russia and the world today”.
In the opinion of Timur Akchurin, preserving and restoring the memory about the years of the Stalin’s railroad building, the society pays tribute to own history, marks difficult stages in its own development, analyzes them and makes conclusions, thus, becoming stronger.
Also the opportunity to visit reindeer herds, to take a walk in the Polar Urals, to see beauty of nature of Yamal will appear within the project. It is planned to purchase choums for guests that will allow residents of the towns Labytnangi and Salekhard to spend leisure time, to get acquainted with traditional way of life, customs, traditions and culture of reindeer herders – Khanty people. (The note: a choum is a dwelling of nomads, reindeer herders; it is a tent covered with reindeer hides and similar to a tepee).
